The Geometry Problem of the Week

Geometry POW Awards
1996-97

The end of May marked the end of the "school year" for the Geometry Problem of the Week, and we honor the top 10 schools and the top 100 students who participated from September to May with some public recognition. This rewards those students who sent in solutions on a regular basis, and schools that were dedicated users of the POW.

As you can see from the list of schools below, you can "make the grade" either by having lots of participants, or by having a few very dedicated students. Smoky Hill High School went the route of having a lot of participants, and won our top school honors for this year. In addition to the certificate received by all the top schools, Smoky Hill will also receive a prize donated by Key Curriculum Press.

We had some extremely dedicated students this year! It is interesting to note that of the top four students, three are in middle school and one (Thomas) skipped his last year of middle school this year to make the leap to high school (after finishing at the top of the heap in the POW last year).

Congratulations to all the participants! There was a lot of excellent work sent in this year, and it was a pleasure to talk "math" with these folks all year long.
